Hi,
This was found at Keyhole reservoir in Wyoming a long time ago. Thinking it was some kind of weird turtle shell the way it was sitting in the sand when the water level dropped. It was in an area that has a lot of belemnites. In this same area, a few years ago, I found what I believe was a plesiosaurus. I took pictures of it but I could not find a paleontologist who would come look at it. Come to find out that a geologist from Gillette also found it and the dumbass "didn't want to see it deteriorate out there, so it is in a box in my garage".... and it has been there for how long?????? anyways, sorry to get off the subject, it just makes me mad. Anyways! My son accidentally dropped this 'rock' and it almost seems like an egg shape inside. I just wanted to see what you all thought of it or if you know a place I could take it.
Thanks! denene

If you're still about, sorry for the length of time it took to reply to this! What you've got looks to be a concretion, which is basically what it sounds like. In aquatic environments certain things cause sediment to cement together, often around a central object. Concretions occur in a lot of the rock layers in this area that were once sea bottom deposits. Most often there is nothing inside, but sometimes concretions form around the decomposing remains of dead creatures. You would have to whack that central orb open to be sure!
